ASHA Comments on IDEA Part D National Activities Comprehensive Plan

(01/22/07)

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) submitted comments to the U.S. Department of Education (ED) on its proposed Comprehensive Plan for IDEA Part D National Activities. In brief, ASHA voiced concern about the declining trend in the number of grants awarded to speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and audiologists under the IDEA personnel grants program over the last few years. The comments also recommended that the language in the Comprehensive Plan clearly state that "related service providers" are eligible for a number of the personnel preparation grants. ASHA members can view the full comment letter [PDF].
