ASHA Stretegic Plan
Issue B
Third Quarter Progress Report (July - September)
|
|
A critical shortage and continuing attrition of doctoral-level faculty in higher education is affecting the preparation of professionals as well as the conduct of research in communication sciences and disorders.
3rd Quarter Highlights
- Ongoing dissemination of "Reward Yourself with a College Professor" Brochure at NO meetings with external groups (e.g. Special Interest Division meetings).
- Mentoring Academic Research Careers (MARC) mentoring program enrollment was completed. 75 mentor/mentee matches were established.
- An article on the MARC program appeared in Special Interest Division 10: Issues in Higher Ed Perspectives Newsletter.
- 9 students received notification of their Students Preparing for Academic and Research Careers (SPARC) Award. Announcements of the award recipients were published in Access Academics & Research eNewsletter and posted on the Faculty, Researchers, and PhD students Web pages on the ASHA Web site.
- Through the assistance of Sen. Mikulski & Rep. VanHollen of Maryland, a request for a line-item appropriation in the FY2007 Labor-HHS-ED appropriations bill was made to seek funding for doctoral students with the American Speech-Language Hearing Foundation acting as the primary distribution organization to award grants to CSD academic programs.
There are 9 strategies in the work plan for Issue B. Following is the status for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarter.
