ISSUE D: Rapid increase in the knowledge and skill sets needed to provide quality professional services in a culturally competent manner across various practice settings will lead to specialization areas of clinical practice related to communication sciences and disorders.
2nd Quarter Highlights
- Approved ASHA professional development programs for 2007 on "Second Language Acquisition in Preschool Children" and "Phonological Impairments in Spanish Speakers."
- Information related to multicultural issues and linguistic and cultural diversity were submitted for inclusion in the bimonthly publication Access Academics & Research.
- A new working group was formed to write a knowledge and skill document on counseling families of infants and young children with hearing loss.
- Recommended new committees be formed in the areas of social communication and supervision to develop knowledge and skill sets in these areas.
- The Ad Hoc Committee on Early Intervention has developed a draft set of knowledge and skills to submit for peer review.
- Completed a conference call presentation about knowledge and skills and professional issues related to telepractice for speech-language pathologists and audiologists in the Veteran’s Administration who participated on their monthly telehealth conference call.
