First Quarter Progress Report January-March 2007

Issue C: A comprehensive scope of practice that includes all of the major components and new areas of practice in communication sciences and disorders enhances the visibility of the professions by consumers and stakeholders and their perceived value of the role of audiologists and speech-language pathologists.
1st Quarter Highlights
- Peer review the new scope of practice in speech-language pathology has been completed and the comments are being reviewed.
- The Health Care survey to determine the number of practitioners who are involved in providing services related to wellness and prevention has been fielded.
- ASHA's online information packet on private practice has been updated to include information about corporate SLP services.
- ASHA's Responsiveness to Intervention (RTI) Web site was updated with current articles and Web-based resources; staff participated in the IDEA Partnership Meeting and the RTI/Early Intervening Services (EIS) roundtable; and presentations related to RTI/EIS were made at state conventions in California, New York, New Jersey, and the District of Columbia. Information on RTI can be accessed on ASHA's Web site.
- The resource list on communication wellness has been updated. The online packets on autism, AAC, and early intervention have been updated. The updates can be accessed on ASHA's Web site.
- A Telepractice poster and a brochure on telespeech have been completed. The poster was used in a poster session at Virginia state association.
- An Article on use of gesture in aphasia was published in Stroke Connection (publication of American Stroke Association).
- Documents related to Medicaid supervision and speech-language pathology and audiology were part of the ASHA exhibit at the annual convention of the National Association of Elementary School Principals.
