ISSUE A: A high quality basic, applied, and efficacy research base in communication sciences and disorders, related fields of study, and related functions for the discipline and professions is essential to provide evidence-based clinical practice and quality clinical services.
2nd Quarter Highlights
- Conducted meetings of ASHA national office units and volunteer leaders in research to develop a 20-page listing of federal disability and rehabilitation research issues on specific ways to improve future research for individuals with communication disabilities, including the areas of early intervention for speech, language, and hearing disabilities, as well as literacy, service delivery in schools, and various health care settings.
- President Alex Johnson testified at a hearing of the Interagency Committee on Disability Research (ICDR) in Washington, DC, which sought comments with respect to the federal disability and rehabilitation research agenda.
- The standards for inclusion of evidence-based information in ASHA policy documents have been revised and N-CEP will provide training to Professional Practices clusters later this year.
