Professional Bio

Sandra Laing Gillam (PhD, University of Memphis) is an Associate Professor in Communication Disorders and Deaf Education at Utah State University. Her research interests include assessment and intervention for language and literacy impairments, multicultural populations, and processes involved in text comprehension. She has written numerous book chapters and articles addressing each of these topics. She was a recipient of an American Speech Hearing and Language Association New Investigator Award (2002) and received the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the University of Memphis (2005). She was awarded Top Professor at Utah State University (2007) and serves on the Faculty Senate and the Departmental Teaching Excellence Committee (DTEA) for The College of Education. She teaches courses in language and literacy development and disorders.

Professional Bio

Monica L. Ferguson, MS, CCC-SLP is Research Associate for the University of Utah Special Education Department and Coordinator for the department's Southern Utah Distance Teacher Education Program in Mild-Moderate Disabilities. She is a Board Recognized Child Language Specialist and has an educational consulting and speech-language pathology practice for school-age children and young adults. Previously, she was a special education coordinator and practitioner in the schools where she practiced for over 20 years.
