Professional Bio

My professional experience includes: clinician chief SLP at the DC Washington Hospital Center; contract therapist at Providence Hospital and at Georgetown University Medical Center in DC, Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland and currently at Sentara Williamsburg and Careplex Hospitals in central Virginia. I have served as regional manager for Genesis Rehabilitation Services, as Program Manager in long-term care for Novacare and Genesis, in Acute Rehab at the Virginia Hospital Center and as Clinical Consultant for Prism Rehabilitation. Additionally, I worked for the Pinellas Schools as clinician and diagnostician, for the DC Society of Crippled Children and in out patient settings in Sarasota and in Williamsburg for the Riverside Rehabilitation Institute. My early clinical training included Walter Reed Hospital and the VA, both in Washington, DC.

Professional Bio

Maia Magder, MS, CCC-SLP is in her third year serving ASHA, first as a Legislative Councilor and now as a Speech-Language Pathology Advisory Council member. She has met with Representative Eleanor Holmes-Norton on behalf of the LC and SLPAC and was successful in changing Holmes-Norton's vote to support IDEA funding.

Maia is a speech-language pathologist at the National Institutes of Health and provides cognitive-linguistic, speech, and swallowing assessment and treatment services to NIH patients. Her area of interest is in neurogenic disorders of communication in adults, as well as psychiatric disorders that affect communication in children, particularly childhood onset schizophrenia. Read more information about her work.
