Please describe the specific qualifications and strengths you possess that make you the most qualified candidate for this office.

As a university program coordinator I have been an active member of the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CAPCSD) and am well aware of the challenges that academic programs in audiology face. In addition, my term on the Board for the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) gave me in-depth knowledge of the diverse academic programs that are educating our future audiologists. Lastly, as a past ASHA Legislative Council member and an active state association member, I am well-informed of the broader professional issues facing audiology.

My strengths are my ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, my organizational abilities, and my unwavering support for the profession of audiology for over 34 years. These strengths and my extensive professional service activities on both the state and national level have prepared me to serve as vice president for academic affairs in audiology.

In what ways have you been innovative and effective in your service on committees, boards, councils, and work settings?

Service on university, state, and national committees, boards, and councils has been an important part of my professional life. Through this service I have learned the importance of commitment, communication, and follow-through. These three characteristics have allowed me to collaborate with colleagues to achieve remarkable outcomes—developing and maintaining an excellent graduate program, implementing visionary practices, offering outstanding conferences, streamlining operations and procedures, and evaluating outcomes.

What do you want ASHA members to know about you?

I am committed to our professions of audiology and speech-language pathology and to ensuring that ASHA meets the ever increasing needs of members. Our Association has a long history of service and innovation led by dedicated volunteers and hard-working National Office staff and I will be dedicated to continue that tradition.
