Eligibility Requirements and
Nomination/Election Procedures

Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Advisory Councils

Eligibility Requirements 

  • Must be an ASHA member
    • Must be current with ASHA dues at the time of nomination and throughout service on the Council elected
  • Must be a certified audiologist or hearing scientist for nomination and election to the Audiology Advisory Council
  • Must be a certified speech-language pathologist or speech or language scientist for nomination and election to the Speech-Language Pathology Advisory Council
  • Must have access to email and the internet

Note: Members dually certified may choose the Advisory Council in which they wish to be considered.

Nomination and Election Procedures

  • A Call for Nominations will appear in The ASHA Leader and on the ASHA Web site in accordance to the timeline established by the Committee on Nominations and Elections
  • Nominators and the nominees/candidates must be an ASHA member with dues current at the time of nomination and election
  • Members may self-nominate or nominate a colleague from the state in which they reside (according to the address on file with ASHA)
  • Final state election slates are determined by the 2 nominees for each Advisory Council receiving the greatest number of nominations. 
  • Members of the Advisory Councils will be elected by ASHA members in their profession and residing in their state, the District of Columbia, or outside of the United States according to the address on file with ASHA. (Note: Dually certified members may choose which Advisory Council they wish to elect.)
  • Elections will be conducted electronically in accordance with the timeline established by the Committee on Nominations and Elections. Members who do not have an e-mail address on file with ASHA or who submit a written request will receive a mailed paper ballot.
