FACILITATING TEAM MEMBER RESPONSIBLE FOR WORK PLAN:
Vic Gladstone, Chief Staff Officer for Audiology (Outcome 2—Telepractices)
ISSUE: ASHA and its members need to improve their use of Web-based and advanced technology to enhance the provision of personnel preparation, provision of clinical services including telepractices, and program administration and to provide value-added programs and services for members, consumers, and the public by making available general and customized knowledge, information, e-commerce, and advanced electronic communication capability.
OUTCOME 2: All ASHA members will have increased knowledge and access to ASHA products, information, and activities related to the use of telepractices in the delivery of clinical services in audiology and speech-language pathology.
STRATEGIES FOR 2003:
- By December 31, 2003 the Telepractices Team, in collaboration with a Working Group on Telepractices, will have developed policy documents on telepractices for consideration by the Legislative Council. A copy of the document(s) will be submitted to the Chief Staff Officer for Audiology.
- By May 1, 2003 the Telepractices Team in collaboration with the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center (RERC) at the National Rehabilitation Hospital will have conducted a telephone seminar titled, "Telehealth Service Delivery in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology: The Future is Here." A copy of the seminar agenda and a report of the seminar evaluation results will be submitted to the Chief Staff Officer for Audiology.
- By December 31, 2003, the Telepractices Team will have provided travel support for team and ASHA members to attend key meetings on telepractices and/or co-present on ASHA/Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center (RERC) information and products on telepractices. A list of meetings attended and presentations made will be submitted to the Chief Staff Officer for Audiology.
- By December 31, 2003, the Telepractices Team will have developed and implemented a program to award up to three grants to ASHA members that are designed to a) develop telepractices service delivery programs in audiology and speech-language pathology, and b) develop and implement a research protocol that demonstrates efficacy in the delivery of audiology and/or speech-language pathology services via telepractices. A copy of the grant program criteria and the list of awardees will be submitted to the Chief Staff Office for Audiology.
