ABSTRACT: Amend a previously adopted resolution (LC 9-98).
RESOLVED, That the first resolve of LC 9-98 be amended to have the following statement
deleted, "...within the last five years..."
RATIONALE: LC 9-98 established the Special Contributions in Higher Education to acknowledge achievement and/or contributions by individuals employed in higher education. The problem with this award and the fact that it has not been awarded is that it states “within the last five years.” This has precluded some individuals from this recognition. It has also presented some confusion on the part of the person nominating someone.
If this resolution is approved, then it would clearly state that the award would be for individuals at any point in their careers. This change would be effective in 2005.
If this resolution is not approved, then the expressed confusion would still exist.
