RESOLVED, That “Knowledge and Skills in Business Practices for Speech-Language Pathologists Who Are Managers and Organizational Leaders in Health Care Organizations” be published in the next annual supplement to The ASHA Leader and that it be posted on the professional Web site, be made available upon request from the ASHA Action Center, and be included in the next revision of the ASHA Desk Reference.

Rationale: This document represents the work of the Ad Hoc Committee on Business Practices for Speech-Language Pathologists in Health Care Settings, which was charged to develop a knowledge and skills practice policy document delineating the areas of business practice in which SLPs must be knowledgeable and skilled to provide services effectively in a health care setting.  The committee developed the document “Knowledge and Skills in Business Practices Needed by Speech-Language Pathologists in Health Care Settings,” which was approved by the Legislative Council in 2002.  The Ad Hoc Committee also identified the need for a more advanced set of knowledge and skills in business practices for SLPs who hold management or administrative roles in their organization. The purpose of this document is to delineate areas of knowledge not typically addressed in graduate SLP programs that can assist members in professional development and career advancement.
