Rationale: This document represents the work of a working group supported by Special Interest Division 13 (Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders), which was charged to develop guidelines for SLPs performing videofluoroscopic swallowing studies (VFSS). The need for this document stems from a growing use of the VFSS in the assessment and treatment of individuals with swallowing disorders. The purpose of this document is to provide guidelines for the use of the VFSS in the assessment and management of individuals with dysphagia. This document offers a suggested training guideline to obtain competency in the VFSS and addresses questions and issues relative to current best practice.
