Abstract: Approve The Roles of Speech-Language Pathologists and Teachers of Children Who Are Deaf and Hard of Hearing In the Development of Communicative and Linguistic Competence: Position Statement

RESOLVED, That the document The Roles of Speech-Language Pathologists and Teachers of Children Who Are Deaf and Hard of Hearing In the Development of Communicative and Linguistic Competence: Position Statement developed by the Joint Committee of ASHA and the Council on the Education of the Deaf (JC ASHA/CED) be approved and further

RESOLVED, That the position statement be published in the next annual Supplement to The ASHA Leader, be posted on the Web site, be made available upon request from the ASHA Action Center, and be included in the next revision of the ASHA Desk Reference.

Rationale: The Roles of Speech-Language Pathologists and Teachers of Children Who Are Deaf and Hard of Hearing In the Development of Communicative and Linguistic Competence: Position Statement, Technical Report, and Guidelines were developed by the Joint Committee of ASHA and the Council on Education of the Deaf (JC ASHA/CED) to address service delivery issues for children who are deaf or hard of hearing ages birth through 21 years and for those who may have concomitant disabilities. Through these documents JC ASHA/CED, seeks to provide speech-language pathologists, teachers of children who are Deaf or hard of hearing, and others, with guidance information and resources that define, highlight and examine issues related to service delivery to facilitate the development of communicative competence in children who are Deaf or hard of hearing.  This position statement can be used to improve and justify service delivery to this population.
