Abstract: Recommend that the Executive Board develop a comprehensive plan to address the decline of males entering the professions
RESOLVED, That the Legislative Council recommend that the Executive Board develop a comprehensive plan to address the issue of the reduction in the number of men entering the professions; and further
RESOLVED, That the Executive Board submit a progress report on the issue to the Legislative Council at its Spring 2004 meeting and a further report of progress on specific initiatives to address this problem at the Legislative Council’s Fall 2004 meeting.
Rationale: The Fall 2003 LC Caucus on Fewer Men in the Professions of Speech-Language Pathology “How to Reverse a Negative Trend,” discussed and identified issues and solutions related to recruiting men into the professions. Because the number of males entering the professions and the percentage of males who are members of ASHA continues to decline, it is important that ASHA study this issue and identify possible actions that can be taken to reverse this negative trend.
