George O. Purvis

Chair, Audiology Advisory Council

George O. Purvis, PhD, CCC-A, has served on numerous professional committees, councils and boards, including the Council on Academic Accreditation in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, the Standards Council, and the Clinical Certification Board. In addition, as a member of the ASHA Executive Board he was the first Vice President for Quality of Service in Audiology.

Dr. Purvis has also been active in state licensure, serving as chair of the audiology and speech pathology licensing boards in California and Kentucky. He has also filled numerous positions on the National Council of State Boards of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.

Dr. Purvis is currently Chief of the Audiology and Speech Pathology Service at the VA Medical Center in Louisville, Kentucky. He also has supervisory responsibilities at the Ireland Army Hospital at Ft. Knox, Kentucky, and at the Tricare Audiology Clinic at the Kentucky Air National Guard Base in Louisville. He is an associate clinical professor of surgery in the Department of Communicative Disorders at the University of Louisville. His main clinical interests are in the areas of diagnostic assessment of the auditory and vestibular system, hearing conservation, and professional issues.
