Allan O. Diefendorf

Vice President for Standards and Ethics in Audiology

Allan O. Diefendorf received his PhD from the University of Washington and his MS from Vanderbilt University. He is on the faculties of the Indiana University School of Medicine (primarily) and Purdue University (adjunct).

Over the past 20 years, Dr. Diefendorf has directed audiology and speech-language pathology at the Indiana University Medical Center, which includes Indiana University Hospital, the Riley Hospital for Children, and Wishard Memorial Hospital. Dr. Diefendorf's clinical, teaching, and research interests are in the area of early detection, intervention, and management of infants and children with hearing loss.

Dr. Diefendorf is an ASHA Fellow and has served ASHA as Chair of the Joint Committee on Infant Hearing (JCIH). He also has chaired three working groups on audiologic issues related to the pediatric population (ASHA Audiology Birth-to-5 Documents, 2004, 2006, 2008) and has served as chair of the Board of Ethics and a member of the Council for Clinical Certification. In his home state, he has served as the chair of the Licensure Board, the Governor's Advisory Board for Early Detection and Intervention, and the State Board of Health Advisory Board on Early Detection of Hearing Loss.
