Message from the President

Kate GottfredWelcome to ASHA's 2008 Convention in my home town of Chicago! I am very excited that so many colleagues can experience this wonderful city with its warm and friendly people.

The convention provides a wonderful chance for us to interact and connect with each other during educational programming, as well as at fun events and receptions. Whether you are a practitioner in a school or health care setting, a researcher, academician, audiologist, speech-language pathologist, or wear a couple of those hats, ASHA's program committee has worked hard to provide you with a variety of program sessions from which to choose. We are also working hard to make sure you will feel at home in Chicago.

With the many challenges and changes we are facing in our professions, the ASHA Convention will give you the information and insights you need not only to achieve success but to flourish. We hope you will go back to work energized and ready to apply the new skills you have learned.

Please look on page 16 of this program book to read about ASHA's Because We Care project that will help support literacy in the Chicago area by donating children's books to the Chicago International Charter School and the Carole Robertson Center for Learning Programs. One book is easy to pack and if over 10,000 attendees bring and donate a book, we'll make a huge impact.

I look forward to November and personally welcoming you to my hometown, Chicago!
