The 11th annual New Investigator Roundtable will provide a venue for individuals who are in the beginning stages of their academic-research careers to interact with more seasoned investigators. Through rather informal, roundtable discussions, new investigators (graduate, AuD, and PhD students, as well as postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty members) will meet with individuals in the discipline who can offer advice concerning successful academic-research careers (e.g., beginning a research career, balancing research and other activities, identifying appropriate research funding, and interviewing for a professional position).

The theme of this year's symposium, which will encompass five Convention Program sessions, is Neurobiological Determinants of Human Communication: Prematurity and Early Childhood. This day-long symposium brings together distinguished researchers in this area, who will address topics such as the neurobiology of the developing infant in health and disease, recent advances in brain imaging and tractography, and the translation of developmental neurobiological research into promising interventions. Opportunities for informal interaction with the speakers will be provided. Sessions are open to all Convention registrants; there is no additional registration fee. Symposium participants are strongly encouraged to attend all five sessions.

The second annual Pathways to Research Funding Roundtable will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss topics related to research funding with seasoned investigators in the field of communication sciences and disorders. Through informal roundtable discussions, participants will be able to gather information on topics such as types of federal and private funding opportunities, training and career development grants, and tips on grant-writing.
