New this year—Submit your CEUs online!

This year, submitting your CE sessions for Convention will be faster, easier, and more secure than ever! Instead of a paper form, enter your CE sessions online. You'll be assured that your credits are reported completely and correctly.

How to Submit Online

  1. At Convention, keep a personal record of the sessions you attend. You will need each session's four-digit session number as printed in the Convention program.
  2. During and after Convention, but no later than December 22, go to ASHA's Convention Web page.
  3. Select the link for "Submit Your CEUs Online."
  4. Log in as directed and follow the prompts to enter each session.

You may save your session list, return to it, review it, and modify it as many times as you like. When your list is complete, you will submit the final version. Once you submit this final version, you will no longer be able to modify the information.

You can print a final copy of your session report, including the total hours and equivalent ASHA CEUs, as soon as you submit it. You may keep this report for your records. Session lists must be finalized and submitted by 11:59 p.m. Eastern time, Monday, December 22, 2008. You can earn up to 2.5 ASHA CEUs (25 professional development hours) at Convention.

Your Responsibilities

  • Submit only sessions that you attend in full.
  • Submit your CEU sessions online no later than December 22.
  • To earn ASHA CEUs, join the CE Registry (see below).

ASHA CEUs

One (1.0) ASHA CEU represents ten hours of instruction. Fractional hours are dropped in reporting ASHA CEUs. So, 16.5 hours of instruction equals 1.6 ASHA CEUs. ASHA CEUs are awarded only through the ASHA CE Registry. If you choose not to join the Registry, you may keep track of the professional development hours you earn at Convention, and apply them toward CCC maintenance. See CE Registry and professional development hours, below.

Attendance Confirmation

Confirmation of attendance forms are available at Registration. These forms are designed to facilitate reimbursement by your employer. Please note that the attendance form does not confirm participation in any continuing education activities and is not suitable for use for licensure renewal, CCC maintenance, or similar purposes. Attendance forms are only available on site.

CCC Maintenance

ASHA CEUs or professional development hours accrued at the convention will count toward CCC maintenance provided you are in your three-year maintenance interval. If you were initially certified during 2008, your CCC maintenance interval begins on January 1, 2009. If you want the 2008 Convention to "count" toward your CCC maintenance, you may make a one-time, permanent change of your maintenance interval to begin January 1, 2008. Forms for this purpose are available on the Web.

CE Registry

The ASHA Continuing Education (CE) Registry awards ASHA CEUs on behalf of the Continuing Education Board, and maintains a permanent, cumulative transcript of your ASHA CEUs. The ASHA CE Registry is open to ASHA and NSSLHA members as well as non-members.

Participation in the ASHA CE Registry is optional. The ASHA CE Registry fee, payable annually, is $24 for members, $34 for nonmembers. In Chicago, you may pay the Registry fee:

  • At the main Continuing Education information booth, 3rd level
  • In the ASHA Member Services center in the exhibit hall
  • By calling the Action Center, 800-498-2071 (regular business hours)

If you prefer not to join the Registry, but you need documentation of your Convention continuing education activities, you should follow the instructions above for submitting your CE sessions online. You will be able to access and print your Convention Session Report whether or not you join the Registry.

Corrections and Appeals

If you fail to submit your CE sessions online by December 22, but you still want ASHA CEUs or professional development hours, it will be necessary to file an appeal. Contact ASHA Professional Development (ashaprofdev@asha.org or 800-498-2071, ext. 8593) for information on the appeal process. The fee for an appeal is $50.

Eligibility for Credit

If you are registered for the Convention, you are eligible to apply for continuing education credit. You are encouraged to do so even if you are a student, a nonmember of ASHA, or not currently subject to any continuing education requirement.

In general, any Convention session that has a 4-digit session number is eligible for credit. Activities that are not eligible for credit include the opening general session, awards ceremony, exhibits, committee, board and council meetings, and committee/board lunchtime presentations. Pre-Convention events are registered separately for ASHA CEUs. You will be advised at those sessions how to earn ASHA CEUs for them.

Exhibitors

Exhibitors who are using one of their company's complimentary full-convention registrations are eligible to attend sessions and earn continuing education credit. Exhibitors who are using an exhibit hall only badge are not eligible to attend sessions or earn continuing education credit.

Florida CE Broker

If you are licensed in Florida and participate in the CE Registry, your ASHA CEUs from Convention will automatically be reported to Florida's CE Broker. You must participate in the CE Registry to use this service.

Poster Sessions

In order to claim poster sessions for credit, you must visit them during the 90-minute period indicated in the program, when the authors are present to discuss their work. Each poster session will count for 15 minutes, even if you spend more time. You may claim up to 6 poster sessions in each 90-minute time block. You may claim credit for posters you visit during intervals between seminars and other instructional programs, provided the visit occurs during the 90-minute period when authors are present.

Pre-Convention Workshops

Pre-Convention courses, such as Special Interest Division workshops, are considered separate activities for CEU purposes. They are not recorded in the online submission system, and will not appear on your Convention Session Report.

Rush ASHA Registry Transcript Processing

You will be able to print your session report as soon as you finalize and submit your online record.

To order an ASHA CE Transcript, use the online transcript request form. Your transcript (including ASHA CEUs earned at the ASHA Convention) will be mailed:

  • the week of December 8, 2008 if sessions are submitted on or before December 1, 2008, or
  • the week of January 5, 2009 if sessions are submitted between December 2 and December 22

Speakers

As a presenter of a short course, seminar, instructional course, keynote, or technical session you may claim your own session and earn credit equal to the duration of the session. Poster session presenters may only earn the equivalent of 15 minutes of credit.

AAA CEUs

To earn AAA CEUs, complete and turn in an AAA CEU participant form, available at the CE information booths. There is no charge for this service.
