Help Support Children's Literacy in Chicago – Because We Care

About the Program

Join ASHA's Because We Care program as we thank Chicago for hosting the 2008 Convention by extending a helping hand to the Chicago International Charter School and the Carole Robertson Center for Learning Programs. Your donations of new or gently used books will help hundreds of underserved or at-risk children of all ages.

By operating a multi-site charter school, Chicago International plays a crucial role in improving disadvantaged communities across Chicago. The charter school aims to provide children from economically at-risk families with a high-quality education, thus equipping them with the vision and skills to lift themselves and their families out of poverty and to contribute to a new vision of urban life.

The Carole Robertson Center for Learning developed through a grassroots efforts of parents and neighbors and has evolved into a comprehensive family development agency addressing a variety of needs. Current programs and services at the Carole Robertson Center include Infant Toddler Development, Parent Child Home Program, Head Start, Early Childhood Education, Family Child Care Home Network, School Age, Youth Alternatives, Family Literacy Development, Music Education, Adult Education, Family Support and Social Services, Family Health Education, Community Partners, and Volunteers.

Donated children's books may be for all ages; however, the Chicago International Charter School primarily serves grades K-8. The Carole Robertson Center primarily serves pre-kindergarten aged children. In addition, many of the children served by both organizations are of mixed-ethnicity backgrounds and are Spanish-speaking, so foreign language book donations are welcome.
