The Researcher-Academic Town Meeting will include a light dinner and feature a presentation and panel discussion on Team Science: Reframing a Familiar Concept for Contemporary Research Issues in Communication Sciences and Disorders.The guest speaker will be Dennis Matthews, PhD, Professor at the University of California at Davis and Director of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's Center for Biotechnology, Biophysical Sciences and Bioengineering. Panel members Thomas Helfer, Ray Kent, Elena Plante, and Bruce Tomblin will respond to the presentation and frame the information for our discipline. The recipients of a variety of academic-research awards will also be recognized. A dessert networking reception following the presentations will allow for further interaction among colleagues in attendance. Seating is limited and is by invitation. Improving Intelligibility in Apraxia and Dysarthria Presenter: Pamela Marshalla
The Massachusetts Speech-Language-Hearing Association (MSHA) is sponsoring a preconvention conference.
This conference will present practical ways to improve intelligibility in children with apraxia or dysarthria. Based on thirty years of clinical experience, Pam Marshalla describes the best ways to attack the process of speech development in children who do not respond well to traditional techniques. Content combines information from phonology, articulation and oral-motor therapy. Designed for practicing speech-language pathologists who work with children in schools, hospitals, and private practice.
Pam Marshalla has presented hundreds of workshops on oral-motor, apraxia and articulation therapy to state, regional, national and international conferences. A thirty-year veteran in the field, Pam has worked in schools, hospitals, parent-infant programs, university training facilities and private practice. She has written eight books related to thumb sucking, drooling, apraxia, oral-motor therapy and therapy for /r/ and the lisps. Pam is an engaging speaker who will make you feel proud to be a speech-language pathologist.
