A Message From President Glenda Ochsner
Greetings and welcome to ASHAs 2003 Convention being held in Chicago. The last time ASHA held its Convention in Chicago was 26 years ago in 1977. Since that time, Chicago has undergone a major revitalization of its downtown and waterfront areas and will offer ASHA members a great variety of activities before and after Convention programs.
As we come together to celebrate our professions and learn from each other, this years Convention promises something for everyone. Two ASHA Conventions in onethe Speech-Language Pathology Convention and the Audiology Conventionare listed in this one program book to help you easily find educational sessions for each discipline and see all of the discipline-wide programs.
All educational sessions will be held at the McCormick Place Convention Center along with the exhibit hall, job placement center, and the Opening General Session and awards ceremony. Former Senator and astronaut John Glenn will join his wife Annie Glenn at the Awards Ceremony honoring your colleagues for their achievements. Your legislative councilors will meet at the Hilton Hotel on Saturday and Sunday. The entire Legislative Council schedule will be published prior to the Convention in The ASHA Leader.
2003 has been designated as The Year of the Volunteer and during the Convention we will celebrate and thank ASHA members who volunteer their time to make the Association the best it can be. Please stop by the ASHA Volunteer Welcome Center near the registration area and find out how you can offer your services to the Association and receive a special gift if you have worked on behalf of ASHA.
Eliminating the Sunday half-day program sessions will allow you leisure time on Saturday night to attend Open Houses and enjoy the great Chicago nightlife. And youll be home with your family and friends before the weekend is over.
I look forward to welcoming you in Chicago at ASHA 2003!
