Ethics Roundtable: Case Study
|
Mr. Allen recently completed a Masters degree in Audiology. He signed a contract accepting a Clinical Fellowship position with an independent audiology practice that serves 10 local medical groups. During his orientation to his new job, Allen was instructed that the practice has a sales quota for each audiologist. He is expected to sell 10 hearing aids during each two-week pay period. Adjustments to his salary may be made if he fails to reach an average of 10 hearing aids over three pay periods. If his average sales are higher than the minimum, he will receive a bonus.
Questions to consider:
- What are the potential concerns about this quota?
- Does ASHA's Code of Ethics provide any guidance in this case?
- What options are available to Mr. Allen?
