What is an ASHA Telephone Seminar?
An ASHA Telephone Seminar is a two- or three-hour workshop broadcast over the telephone. You can call in from work or home, by yourself or with a group. We'll give you access to the presenters' handouts (available online) ahead of time so you can follow along easily. Speech pathologists and audiologists can earn 0.2 or 0.3 ASHA CEUs, depending on the length of the workshop, by participating in an ASHA Telephone Seminar.

Do I have to take a test?
No test is required for ASHA Telephone Seminars. Just fill out and return the CE Participant Form to claim your CEUs. (Although most states accept the Telephone Replay format for their CE requirements, we recommend that you call your state to check before getting started.)
What's the difference between Telephone Seminars and Telephone Replays?
ASHA Telephone Seminars come in two formats: Live and Replay.
Live Telephone Seminars happen in real time–they occur at the time and date indicated for the seminar subject. The advantage of a live Telephone Seminar is that participants have the opportunity to ask the presenters questions during the program. This personalizes the experience and allows for your particular questions, comments, and concerns to be addressed on the spot.
Telephone Replays are verbatim recordings of live Telephone Seminars. They are considered self-study programs. Telephone Replays are available 24 hours a day, for one year after the original broadcast. The advantage of Telephone Replay is convenience. Day, evening, weekend...the Telephone Replay option makes it easy to fit ASHA Professional Development programs into your busy schedule. Although most states accept the Telephone Replay format for their CE requirements, we recommend that you call your state to check before getting started.
How do live Telephone Seminars work?
- When you register, you'll receive access via the internet to an instruction packet that includes the presenters' handouts and a CEU form.
- On the day of the seminar, reserve a quiet space to listen and participate. Check your instruction packet for the telephone number and your personal identification number (PIN). Five minutes before the seminar is scheduled to begin, dial the number and enter your PIN when prompted.
- Follow the prompts and instructions during the seminar. Your instruction packet contains information on how to contact the seminar operator in case of technical difficulties. Be sure to take advantage of the question and answer sessions!
- After the seminar has ended, fill out your evaluation form and your ASHA CEU form and return them within 5 days using the envelope provided in your instruction packet. We will submit your seminar participation information to CE Registry.

When will I receive my Telephone Seminar materials in the mail?
We have changed our way of delivering Telephone Seminar materials. As of September 4, 2006, all handouts and CEU forms are distributed from our Web site. You can access this material by clicking on the link listed on your order confirmation, or going to our Telephone Seminars page and clicking the "Log In" link next to the title.
I'm interested in hosting a Telephone Seminar for a group. How do I do that?
Hosting a group Telephone Seminar is not only a good way to save money, it also advertises your services to the community and provides an great forum for you to network with your colleagues. You can choose to host a Telephone Seminar or a Telephone Replay...whatever works best for you. Group telephone seminars must be conducted from one site and must use one telephone line to dial in.
- Register for your seminar.
Register for the seminar of your choice and you'll receive access via the Internet to an instruction packet that includes the presenters' handouts and a CEU form.
- Recruit your group members.
Telephone colleagues or mail your own flyers. This should be done at least 6 weeks ahead of the date of your hosted seminar. Charge participants whatever you wish. Use your state association mailing list or purchase a mailing list of members and certificate holders in your area from ASHA (800-498-2071).
- Prepare your handouts.
Once you've registered for the seminar, you will receive access to an instruction packet that includes a master copy of the presenters' handouts, an agenda, evaluation forms, CEU forms, and faculty bios for you to copy and hand out to your attendees. All files will be in Adobe PDF format. You have one-time-use permission to copy this material for the Telephone Seminar only. If you have any difficulties opening the handouts, please download and install the most recent version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
- Set up your facility.
Select a room appropriate for the number of participants in your group. The room must be free from noise and distractions and should provide space for attendees to write. Arrange to use a touch-tone speaker phone with amplification adequate for your group. It is highly recommended that you check the quality of your speaker phone or other equipment well in advance of the Telephone Seminar. If you are hosting a large seminar in a large room, audioconferencing equipment will provide better sound and volume. One company ASHA recommends is AT Products (800-848-2205).
- Listen to the seminar.
Check your instruction packet for the seminar telephone number and your personal identification number (PIN). The group leader for the seminar should then dial the number, enter the PIN, and follow the prompts.
- Send in your forms.
Immediately following the Telephone Seminar, the group leader should collect the completed evaluation forms and CEU forms from all participants. The group leader should then fill out the blue attendance sheet and send all documents back to ASHA using the envelope provided in the instruction packet. We will submit your seminar participation information to CE Registry.
