Statistician

EXEMPT

The purpose of this position is to provide statistical oversight and support on quantitative survey and evaluation research projects. This includes the ability to determine appropriate sampling designs and population samples, establish and apply statistical weighting, independently conduct statistical analyses on internal and external data sets, and contribute to written and/or oral presentations of results. This incumbent provides technical expertise in quantitative statistical analyses to National Office staff, ASHA boards, committees, and councils, ASHA constituents, and external parties. 

Responsibilities

  1. Conduct univariate and multivariate statistical data analyses in response to requests from National Office staff, Association boards, committees, and councils, and others by determining appropriate analyses, designing computer programs for data entry, developing and applying codebooks, writing reports, and providing consultation to others 
  2. Assist in the design of research studies, especially pertaining to sampling (e.g., probabilistic sampling), weighting, design effects, and appropriate analyses
  3. Prepare the official annual constituency counts and demographic profiles for the Association and conduct complex statistical analyses of these data
  4. Provide research expertise and technical assistance to National Office staff, constituents, committees, boards, and councils, consumers, researchers, and other organizations/ individuals pertaining to statistical analyses, sampling, weighting, and design effects
  5. Lead and contribute to unit, cluster, and National Office temporary projects 

Qualifications

Knowledge typically acquired through:

  • Master's degree in statistics, mathematics, or related field
  • Five or more years of experience in the use and application of statistical analysis and statistical computer software packages

Scope and depth of technical skills/knowledge:

  • Demonstrated advanced skills in and knowledge of quantitative statistical analysis and statistical computer software packages (SPSS preferred)
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in and knowledge of probabilistic survey sampling, statistical weighting, and design effects 
  • Ability to contribute written sections for individual sections of a research report, grant applications, etc. 
  • Demonstrated advanced-level skills in the use of database, spreadsheet, graphics, and word processing software (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Word preferred)

Scope and depth of non-technical skills/knowledge:

  • Ability to explain complex issues to colleagues and clients in a clear and comprehensive manner, using non-technical language where appropriate
  • Ability to manage large data sets
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and individually
  • Ability to work with high-level professionals, committees, and governing boards
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and complicated detail work in an organized fashion in the face of changing priorities and tight timelines
  • Demonstrated project management and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to self-direct, set and meet deadlines, and self-prioritize
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Salary:   $70,560 - $78,400
