EXEMPT
The purpose of this position is to serve as an Associate Director to the Director, Special Interest Divisions and International Liaison Programs by executing duties on his/her behalf, and to direct the functions and operations of the Special Interest Division Program. Further, the position facilitates the effective execution of assigned Division activities, including those associated with the ASHA Strategic Pathways and other committee/board governance activities. The end result is to ensure that there is efficient organization and timely execution of the work necessary to support the smooth functioning of the Association's Special Interest Division operations.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the operations of the Association's Special Interest Divisions programs that influence and help to shape the education and practice of speech-language pathology and audiology
- Manage and facilitate Divisions projects through completion in conjunction with other programs and areas as assigned by Director, Special Interest Divisions and International Liaison; monitors status of various projects and issues, and reports to Director as appropriate
- Write, edit, and handle preparation of reports, correspondence, and other information related to Division issues/projects
- Serve as ASHA policy liaison and facilitate the work of committee-initiated documents and programs
- Serve as ex-officio to Division Steering Committees and other committees/task forces/volunteer groups, as assigned by the Director
- Provide consultation and technical assistance on Division activities to enhance the operations of the National Office and the Association
- Advise ASHA members and National Office Staff concerning Division matters
Qualifications
Knowledge typically acquired through:
- Graduate degree in a related field is required, MA or MS in speech-language pathology, audiology, with CCC-SLP or CCC-A is preferred
- Five or more years of successful experience in speech-language pathology, audiology, or related area
- Supervisory and/or managerial experience in a comparable public or private work setting (e.g., a government agency or nonprofit professional or charitable organization)
Scope and depth of technical skills/knowledge:
- Familiarity with common computer software programs, including MS Word and Excel
- Computer skills necessary to access information and process products, including databases
- Excellent writing and proofreading skills
- Budget development and monitoring skills
Scope and depth of non-technical skills/knowledge:
- Demonstrated ability to effectively organize and prioritize multiple and complex projects and tasks
- Knowledge in the professional and governance content areas and the resources available
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects and work teams to accomplish projects and to work cooperatively with staff and volunteers
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills, specifically including demonstrated ability to independently compose routine correspondence, develop technical and financial reports/documents, and summarize/interpret/communicate technical/scientific information for a professional (SLP and audiologist) as well as lay (consumer) audience
- Knowledge of ASHA policy and procedures
- Well-developed interpersonal and team-facilitation skills, including demonstrated ability to direct/facilitate meetings/conference calls and other communications venues
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple projects and activities simultaneously; set and meet multiple deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to deal discreetly with confidential information
- Must be able to participate on conference calls at various times of the day
- Must be able to work on weekends and evenings
- Must be able to travel
