Labeling Objects and Pictures
Treatment Tip
When working with patients with aphasia, I have found that labeling the objects and pictures in their environment helps them:
- Increase their exposure to written language and process it passively
- Increase recognition of the names of objects and people of importance
- Feel empowered by success in their communication when they can express themselves with minimal effort via oral or total communication using external aids
External aids that are fixed within the patients environment serve as an additional augmentative and alternative communication device, especially for those that don't like the idea of carrying/using portable devices
