"Cando Cafe" is a group activity for residents with cognitive impairments in a skilled nursing home setting. It is particularly useful for residents who are going home and for improving functional task abilities in residents with dementia to increase activity involvement. One resident creates a menu and another makes the grocery list. The SLP buys the groceries. Then, a group of 3–4 residents participate by selecting the menu items they wish to eat for a meal, calculating their bill (calculation), cooking their own meal, which is often breakfast (kitchen safety), eating (dysphagia), and cleaning their own dishes (kitchen safety). Our residents love it and it is more therapeutic in a functional setting.
