Perspectives' New CEU Procedures for 2013

As ASHA's Special Interest Groups become more prominent in the Association, it is important to provide consistency in affiliates' experiences across SIGs. In particular, we want to ensure that ASHA CEUs for Perspectives are calculated the same way, so that issues with CEU content of comparable length carry the same number of credits. The Board of Special Interest Group Coordinators agreed. The Continuing Education Board accepted a proposal to use the mean value of the SIGs' previously established word count formulas to calculate ASHA CEUs for all issues of Perspectives. (Until now, each SIG calculated the number of CEUs associated with its Perspectives self-studies with its own formula. Consequently, the number of CEUs associated with comparable self-studies varied across Perspectives.)

Starting January 1, 2013, we will apply a consistent set of procedures for CEU calculation to all Perspectives. The number of CEUs offered with each SIG's Perspectives self-studies will be calculated in the same way.

For most SIGs, there will be no change in the number of CEUs. For others this change will result in a slightly lower or higher number of CEUs than the former procedures.

We will continue to work hard to bring you practical, application-oriented content focused on your area of interest through our issues of Perspectives.
