In an attempt to mitigate the impending teacher shortage that could potentially cripple the nation’s public school system, the Obama Administration has launched the TEACH Campaign (www.teach.gov) to recruit a new generation of teachers to educate American school children.
Over the next three to five years almost a quarter of the teaching workforce, mostly Baby Boomers, will retire from the profession, leaving large gaps of unfilled classrooms. The TEACH program aims to attract Gen-Xers and the Millenials through a new website that provides information, testimonials, and resources for students and prospective teachers. Also included on the website is an interactive “path to teaching” tool designed to help individuals chart their course to becoming a teacher.
