Congress Passes One Year Medicare Payment Fix

On Dec. 9 the House of Representatives passed legislation that would extend current Medicare reimbursement rates and the therapy cap exceptions process through December 31, 2011. The Senate has already passed this legislation, and the bill now goes to the President for his signature. Medicare fee schedule rates for 2011 will be revised and posted on ASHA's Medicare Fee Schedule Web page for both speech-language pathology and audiology services.

ASHA will continue to work with other stakeholders in developing an alternative payment system for outpatient therapy services as well as replacement of the flawed SGR formula in determining Medicare Part B payments.
