Glimpses: Read My Leaves

Read My Leaves

With it starting to feel like autumn outside, I decided to bring a little bit of fall into the speech room. This craft was based on the book "Leaf Man" by Lois Ehlert. First, my groups read "Leaf Man," a wonderful book for targeting both language and articulation goals with the kiddos during the fall season. After we read the book and reviewed individual goals, the kiddos got creative and made their own leaf creations. We covered the table with leaves, sticks, acorns and anything we could find outside to make our leaf men. This particular student chose to create a "leaf bird" to target vocalic /r/. It was exciting to watch the students put together their own leaf creations and watch their creativity flow!

A little more about me: I am a school-based speech-language pathologist living in Columbia, South Carolina, and I work with children from preschool age through fifth grade. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina (go Gamecocks!) and my graduate degree from Florida Atlantic University. I love working with children because it is so unpredictable; every day is different.
