ASHFoundation: Rousing Raffle Extravaganza Raises More Than $4,000

Rousing Raffle Extravaganza Raises More Than $4,000

Hundreds of attendees took part in the ASHFoundation's Rousing Raffle Extravaganza at the recent ASHA Schools Conference in Long Beach, Calif. The raffle raised more than $4,000 to support the ASHFoundation's grant and scholarship programs.

Raffle participants purchased tickets and placed them in fishbowls for chances to win nearly 40 prizes including an iPad Mini, Kindle Fire, gift cards (American Express, Amazon and iTunes), hotel stays, conference registrations, restaurant certificates, gift baskets and books. Individuals and organizations—including ASHA and ASHFoundation board members, Plural Publishing, Pearson, WPS, RWH Technology, Therapro, Little Bee Speech, and the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association—donated prizes for the raffle, which was the featured event at Friday evening's welcome reception.

Mary Wilson, co-founder of Laureate Learning Systems, gave the raffle a boost by announcing she would match every $20 raffle ticket purchase with a donation. As news of Wilson's matching donation spread, excitement grew—as did the number of $20 bills deposited in the ASHFoundation's cash box! Of the more than $4,000 raised from the raffle, Wilson matched $3,180, bringing the total raised to more than $7,000.

The Rousing Raffle Extravaganza—and all ASHFoundation activities—raise funds to support research and education in communication sciences and disorders. For a full list of raffle prize winners and donors, the Foundation website.

Take Action Now for Second City in Chicago

True to tradition, plans are set for an exciting ASHFoundation event at the upcoming ASHA convention in Chicago. The Nov. 14 fundraiser will feature the Second City Improv All-Stars, an improvisational comedy show starring up-and-coming talent.

After the show, guests can meet the cast at a dessert reception. All funds raised at the event, which will begin at 8 p.m. at the Moulin Rouge Room of the Chicago Fairmont Hotel, go toward the research and scholarship programs that support the field's members. Tickets are available for purchase on the ASHA convention registration form.

The ASHFoundation will showcase the full impact of donations and support on Friday, Nov. 15, during the annual Founders Breakfast at the Fairmont Hotel. As longstanding donor Anita Halper says, "I've been attending this event for 30 years and still feel the thrill of seeing new scholars with innovative ideas take the stage to receive our donated funds. Everyone in the room feels a part, that we truly make a difference!"

The ASHFoundation expects to disburse more than $500,000 in research grants, scholarships, and clinical awards. Donors at the Founder and higher levels ($100 or more) will receive invitations by mail. It's not too late to make a contribution and receive an invitation. Donate online at the Foundation website or call 301-296-8704.
