Celebrate Excellence: Nominations Open for 2012 Awards

The Committee on Honors seeks nominations for ASHA awards and encourages you to acknowledge exceptional colleagues for their outstanding contributions and achievements. By identifying those who exemplify the best in the discipline, you honor the individual and advance the progress of communication sciences and disorders. Awardees are recognized at a gala celebration at the ASHA Convention.

Visit ASHA's awards webpage for a detailed description of each award, nomination requirements, FAQs, tips for submitting nominations, and instructions on the nomination process. Nominations must be submitted by 12 p.m. EST on March 15, 2012.

Honors of the Association 

Recognizes distinguished contributions to the field of speech, language, and hearing that have altered and enhanced the professions. Nominees are well-known throughout the nation and the world for a lifetime of innovative clinical practice, insightful and rigorous research, creative administration, effective legislative activity, outstanding teaching, professional excellence in a single area, or other distinguished professional contributions.

Fellowship of the Association 

Recognizes outstanding contributions to the profession(s) that are significant and would be so regarded within and beyond one's community or state.

Special Contributions in Multicultural Affairs 

Recognizes distinguished achievement and contributions in the areas of multicultural professional education, multicultural research, and/or clinical service to multicultural populations. Recipients demonstrate a cultural diversity philosophy that significantly and positively benefits clients, colleagues, students, administrators, agencies, referral sources, funding sources, and/or other entities.

Outstanding Service Award

Recognizes outstanding and exemplary service on behalf of or for the association. Nominees may include an individual or groups of individuals who have demonstrated significant contributions in two of the following areas: administration, program development, or service to members.

Certificate of Recognition for Special Contributions in Higher Education 

Recognizes an individual (or a team of individuals) under contract as a faculty member or clinical instructor at a regionally accredited college or university for distinguished achievement and/or contributions in one or more of the following: university and college classroom teaching; clinical teaching; student mentoring; or development of new and innovative educational techniques and technologies in the fields of audiology, speech-language pathology, or speech, language, and hearing science.

Distinguished Service Award 

Recognizes significant contributions to a person who is not a member of ASHA or other organization in the field of speech-language pathology and/or audiology. Nominees should have made a major contribution to the association and the professions in consumer advocacy, governmental affairs, public awareness, research, or service.

The Dorothy Dreyer Award for Volunteerism 

Acknowledges extraordinary effort by members who volunteer time and other resources to ASHA. Nominees have made significant and outstanding non-compensated contributions to ASHA and serve as models of volunteerism. This award's founder wished to acknowledge the volunteer time and efforts of ASHA members who, because of employment and/or life constraints, may not have had the opportunity to hold one of the association's highest elected positions.  

Award for Early Career Contributions in Research 

Acknowledges scientific accomplishments by individuals in the early stages of their careers. Nominees must be under contract with an institution of higher education or other institution where research in communication disorders and sciences is being completed.

Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Contributions in International Achievement 

Recognizes distinguished achievements and significant contributions in communication disorders by ASHA members and non-members that include great international impact. Nominees are eligible based on their work in international education, publications, research, program development, administration, or service delivery to persons with communication disorders.
