What's New at the 2011 Convention?

The 2011 ASHA Convention planners will include the Convention theme—Beacons of Inspiration: Innovation to Action—not only in session programming, but also in the logistics of the Convention, scheduled to take place in San Diego Nov. 17–19.

Innovative improvements will enhance participants' Convention experience. In response to feedback from members, new features will include:

  • A modified Convention schedule that better meets members' needs. See the tentative schedule [PDF] at-a-glance to find out what's new.
  • Additional "twilight" educational sessions.
  • Extended registration hours and changes to the registration process to increase efficiency.
  • Networked session rooms that will allow attendees instant access to an overflow room for popular, at-capacity sessions.

In addition, the Convention website is getting a facelift that will provide more information and details in an easy-to-navigate format.

Nominate 2013 Convention Co-Chairs

June 1 is the deadline to submit nominations for program co-chairs for the 2013 ASHA Convention, scheduled for Nov. 14–16 in Chicago.

Co-chairs select and oversee the program committees: one for programming specific to speech-language pathology/speech and language science and the other for programming in audiology/hearing science.

The 2013 Convention co-chairs also will serve as topic coordinators for the 2012 Convention and on the 2012 Scientific and Professional Education Board (SPEB). A complete job description is available at the Convention website.  

Members may nominate someone else (with that person's permission) or themselves (self-nominations are typical and welcome). Send a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, and three letters of support to Ellen Shortill, director of convention and meetings, at eshortill@asha.org, or by mail to SPEB Chair, c/o Ellen Shortill, ASHA, 2200 Research Blvd. #325, Rockville, MD 20850-3289.
