ASHA-PAC is the political action committee of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. A PAC, or political action committee, is an organization representing a specific cause or issue that raises money to support the election of a candidate. ASHA-PAC is yet another way ASHA members can advocate on behalf of our issues. By providing financial support to the campaigns of congressional candidates who are active and supportive of our issues, we help them continue their efforts on Capitol Hill.
Created in 1986, ASHA-PAC is solely funded by voluntary individual contributions from ASHA members only. We cannot solicit anyone outside of the ASHA membership, including NSSLHA members. Therefore, every dime that comes into and out of the PAC comes from the wallets of your fellow ASHA members.
The money that is contributed and distributed through ASHA-PAC is regularly reported to the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the regulatory agency that monitors campaigns and elections. Federal law prohibits associations, such as ASHA, from using member dues to contribute to political candidates ASHA-PAC complies with all federal election and IRS regulations. ASHA-PAC financial reports are readily available online at www.fec.gov.
