Breaking: EHDI Passes the Senate! Your Voice is Needed in the House!

September 7, 2017

ASHA encourages you to contact your U.S. Representative about an urgent issue! Last night, the Senate unanimously passed S. 652, which reauthorizes the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Act (EHDI) for five years. We now urge the House of Representatives to do the same.

Take Action! Contact your Representative Now!

Background

Grants authorized under EHDI provide states with resources to develop and sustain important infant hearing screening and intervention initiatives. These initiatives can include early hearing screening and evaluation of all newborns, coordinated intervention, rehabilitation services, and research.

Although great strides have been made, significant work remains to be done to ensure that newborns with hearing loss receive timely and appropriate services. Continued federal funding is necessary to ensure the long-term viability of state EHDI initiatives, and that screening services are properly linked with diagnostic and early intervention services.
