ASHA Offers Webinar for Medicare Therapy G-Code Outcomes Reporting Requirements

(April 3, 2013)

ASHA is conducting a webinar on Medicare G-Codes for SLPs: The Key to Outcomes and Payment in response to the mandated claims-based functional outcomes reporting requirements for all Medicare Part B beneficiaries receiving therapy services. The webinar is being offered—live on April 24, 2013 (3:00 p.m.–5 p.m. EDST) and on-demand through April 24, 2014—for 0.2 Continuing Education Units. The webinar features

  • definitions of the terminology used by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), including G-Codes, severity modifier, and Part A and Part B Medicare services,
  • step-by-step instructions for reporting on the claim form,
  • an introduction to the National Outcomes Measurement System (NOMS) as a tool to assist SLPs in meeting the CMS mandate, and
  • reporting tips and basic case scenarios.

Registration for the live broadcast must be completed by noon (EDST) on April 24, 2013.

Outcomes reporting on the claim form was mandated in the Middle Class Tax Relief and Jobs Creation Act passed in February 2012. Congress required that CMS develop an outcomes reporting mechanism on the claim form for all therapy services. CMS developed a functional outcomes reporting process, which includes non-payable G-codes and severity modifiers that correspond to ASHA's NOMS Functional Communication Measures (FCMs). While reliance on NOMS is not a requirement of the CMS reporting program, ASHA members can use NOMS as a tool for complying with the requirements.

This webinar is being offered in response to questions and requests from members for more instruction and clarification regarding the Medicare process, mandated for all Medicare Part B beneficiaries receiving therapy services.
