Due to unforeseen weather conditions that may have prevented many applicants from submitting their Race to the Top–District applications by October 30, 2012, the U.S. Department of Education has extended the application deadline.
- For districts in states affected by Hurricane Sandy and for which the President has issued a major disaster declaration or an emergency declaration, the new Race to the Top–District competition deadline is Wednesday, November 7, 2012, 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has a list of states for which the President has issued a major disaster declaration or an emergency declaration based on the effects of Hurricane Sandy.
- For all other districts, the new deadline is Friday, November 2, 2012, 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
Background: The purpose of the Race to the Top–District competition is to build on the lessons learned from the state competitions conducted under the Race to the Top program and to support bold, locally directed improvements in learning and teaching that will directly improve student achievement and educator effectiveness. ASHA members in education settings are encouraged to collaborate within their district and apply.
