House Passes Stop-Gap Medicare Measure

On March 17, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 4851, the Continuing Extension Act of 2010. This legislation would extend certain Medicare provisions, including the therapy cap exceptions process and freeze on Medicare Part B payment cuts, until April 30, 2010. The Senate passed a similar version, H.R. 4213, the Tax Extenders Act of 2009, however the Senate bill extensions are through the remainder of the year.

The House bill is an effort to ensure Medicare payments and coverage of services is maintained while Congress decides the fate of a more comprehensive health care reform package. The House may vote on the passage of the Senate passed health care reform proposal as early as this weekend.
