Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Tom Harkin (D-IA) introduced S. 3199, the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Act of 2010. This bipartisan bill would authorize funding for early hearing loss detection and intervention activities for fiscal years 2010 through 2015. The bill supports the development of efficient models to ensure that newborns who are identified with hearing loss through screening receive follow-up by qualified health care providers. The House passed its version of EHDI, H.R. 1246, in 2009.
