Access Board to Proceed With Rulemaking on Classroom Acoustics

On Wednesday, July 28, 2010, the policy board of the U.S. Access Board voted unanimously to proceed with the development of rules related to classroom acoustics standards. According to the U.S. Access Board, their staff will begin working immediately on the regulatory assessment (cost/benefit analysis) required to support a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) which will be published in the Federal Register and open for public comment. The Board has indicated the rulemaking will be placed on a fast track.

This is a tremendous victory in moving forward with classroom acoustics standards. Both private and congressional actions have failed to implement this standard nationwide. Regulatory action by the Access Board will ensure that acoustic standards are in place to ensure an appropriate speaking and listening environment for our nation's educators and students.
