I applied for a position on the NSSLHA Executive Council because: I first became interested in the Region IX Councilor position after talking to Elisa Valdes during the 2006 ASHA convention. We were able to sit together during the NSSLHA luncheon. After conversing with her and finding out about a few of her duties as Regional Councilor, I felt that this was a position I would not only enjoy but strive at. It was this encouragement along with a few other reasons I decided to apply for a position on the NSSLHA Executive Council.

A second reason I have wanted to apply for this position is so I can continue being involved in projects and community services held outside of class or work. I have worked very hard in my local chapter at New Mexico State University and I want to be able to continue that effort in a related organization. I know I am capable of this responsibility, and will take it in full strides.

My two year term on the council will be successful if: I am able to stay well connected with the many different local chapters within my region. When I first became president of my local chapter I had many questions for Elisa Valdes, the former Region IX Councilor. She quickly replied to all my questions and gave me the answers I needed, or directed me to the resource that could. I want to be able to do the same for other presidents and members from different chapters of NSSLHA. The best reward I could receive as Region IX councilor is to know that I helped expand, inform, and support the local chapters within my region!
