Expected Date of Graduation: May 2009

Area of Professional Interest: Autism and child language

I joined NSSLHA because: Upon introduction to the association, I joined NSSLHA, realizing that a student-run organization in the area of communication disorders would play an important role in my academic and professional path towards a future career in speech-language pathology. My membership in NSSLHA has granted me valuable access to the most current issues, research, and opportunities available in the field. I am excited and proud to be a part of an association that strives to keep students informed and connected to each other as well as to actual professionals who serve a population with special communicative needs.

I applied for a position on the NSSLHA executive council because: I am constantly on the lookout for new opportunities that allow me to work with others who share my fervent desire in helping individuals with communication disorders. Locally, I have been able to actively participate with organizations and learn from several professionals that are devoted to this purpose. My desire is to work on a team of dedicated students in order to make a national difference for members of NSSLHA and ASHA, but more importantly, to make a difference for the people to whom audiologists and speech-language pathologists are committed to serve.

My two year term on the council will be successful if: If I am able to establish unified networks between chapters and serve as an effective liaison between the local chapters in my region and the Executive Council, then my term as a regional councilor will be a success. I want to be an available listener and the representative voice for the concerns and ideas of Region VIII. I will strive to have communicative interaction on a continual basis with officers of all the active NSSLHA chapters within the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Missouri through the means of e-mail, telephone, newsletters, and if possible at times, in person.

My vision for Region VIII is: In Region VIII, my desire is that neighboring chapters will communicate and collaborate on projects that will benefit people with communication disorders and create more awareness of the field within each of their respective communities. I also want more students from my region to join NSSLHA, which I believe can be achieved with more active service by local chapters and a raised awareness.
