Region IV News & Notes

Learn more about the Region 4, Regional Councilor Ann Kobilarcik:

Academic Status: 1st year masters student, SLP

Major: Speech-Language Pathology

Expected date of graduation: May 2009

University: University of Akron

Area of interest: Child language development and school settings

I joined NSSLHA because: I wanted an opportunity to improve my knowledge of the Communication Disorders profession so I could share it with others in my local chapter and surrounding communities. I absolutely love this major, and being a member of NSSLHA is just one way I have expressed my passion for the field. My involvement in NSSLHA has allowed me to meet other students in the field who have similar interests as I do.

I applied for a position on the NSSLHA Executive Council because: I want to continue to be involved in the organization on all levels. It is so important to stay educated in the fields of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology because it is an ever-changing career. NSSLHA has provided me with the tools to be a voice and advocate for those with communication disorders by providing helpful materials that can be used in and out of the academic environment. I would continue making myself heard by being on the NSSLHA Executive Council.

My vision for Region 4 is: to help struggling chapters by motivating them to succeed and providing ideas that would bring strength back to their chapters. I believe that every chapter, big or small, can be successful. It is also a goal of mine to push for members of local chapters to join National NSSLHA. I would accomplish both of these goals by showing how much fun members can have with NSSLHA, as well as educating the chapters about the benefits of belonging to NSSLHA on a national level. I would also work for chapters to communicate their ideas, and work together for awareness and educating campaigns. The more chapters communicate with each other, the more successful our region can be in raising awareness and making a difference in the field of Communication Disorders. Together, we can make our voices heard.
