Dear NSSLHA Chapter Advisors and Presidents,
Welcome back! I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer with plenty of opportunities to relax and enjoy the good weather.
My name is Gina Nalesnik and I am currently a graduate student at Penn State University where I am pursing a Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology. In addition to my coursework, I have the distinct pleasure of serving as the Regional Councilor for Region 1 in the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association. My term as Regional Councilor began July 2007 and will continue until July 2009. I am also serving as Vice President of NSSLHA for this academic year. I am truly grateful for all of the wonderful experiences I have had so far as your Regional Councilor and I am looking forward to the start of another great year!
As the communicative bridge between the national NSSLHA office and the Region 1 chapters in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Nova Scotia, and Quebec, it is my job to keep you up to date with all of the latest NSSLHA information and events occurring both within our region and at the national level. Please read over this letter and contact me with any questions, concerns, suggestions, or information you would like me to share with other NSSLHA chapters in our region or with the national organization.
Important Reminders
Chapter Recertification: All NSSLHA Chapters need to be recertified by December 31, 2008. There are no fees involved, all that a chapter needs to be recertified is a Chapter advisor who is a current ASHA member, and Chapter Officers who are national members in NSSLHA.
National Membership: Encourage members of your chapter to apply for national membership – There are many fantastic benefits to becoming a member now!
Important Events

- The ASHA Convention: ASHA's Convention this year is taking place November 20-22, 2008, at McCormick Place West in Chicago, Illinois. Come to Chicago and have a great time with other NSSLHA members during this year's NSSLHA Day. Follow the NSSLHA Day link for important information on the festivities.
- National Membership Recruitment Campaign: This year ASHA is allowing NSSLHA to pilot a new program which allows all students to access Web pages which would normally be reserved for members only. This access is temporary, and will begin on October 1 and end on October 31st. Please encourage your members to explore the website and let them know all of the benefits of becoming a national member.
- National Bylaw Vote: In the fall 2008 issue of NSSLHA Now! there will be a ballot in which all national NSSLHA members may vote on various proposed bylaw changes. Please take a few moments to read over the bylaws and send in your votes.
Once again, I am looking forward to hearing from all of you. Please keep me updated on the activities and events that your NSSLHA chapters are conducting by e-mailing NSSLHA.Region1@gmail.com. I would love to include these in the winter newsletter. Also, please feel free to forward this letter to the members of you chapter. I will be in touch and I hope to meet you all up in Chicago!
