Become an International Affiliate
ASHA is reaching out to our international colleagues to share ideas, learn from their experience, and expand the diversity and cultural competence of the membership and the professions. In 2012, to increase connections with international colleagues, ASHA modified the educational qualifications and lowered the fees for International Affiliates. ASHA believes that increased participation by colleagues from outside the United States will help us develop new insights into the varied and unique challenges that professionals in speech, language, and hearing face around the world.
International Affiliation with ASHA is open only to persons who reside abroad and who are not exclusively citizens of the United States. Dual citizens may also become International Affiliates as long as they reside outside of the United States. International Affiliates are not eligible for and do not hold ASHA's Certificate of Clinical Competence. Affiliates also agree to abide by an ethical code of professional practice statement which prohibits use of affiliation with the ASHA in the promotion of commercial products. International Affiliates are eligible to earn professional development hours (PDHs) and can be nominated for the Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Contributions in International Achievement and for ASHA Fellowship.
If affiliates move to the United States or become a citizen of the United States exclusively, they will no longer be eligible for International Affiliate status. However, they may explore obtaining regular ASHA membership and certification if they meet the requirements for applicants educated in a foreign country.
International Affiliate status is on an annual basis with affiliation starting when the application [PDF] is approved. Maintenance of this status is contingent upon annual payment of affiliate dues. Join us in an exchange of ideas and information.
