Convention Poster Session Information for NSSLHA Chapters

NSSLHA Chapter Poster Session Format

NSSLHA chapter posters are an excellent mechanism to facilitate the rapid communication of ideas for chapters, as well as a way to promote local NSSLHA chapters. The chapter poster session offers the potential for new collaborations to develop among peers. Chapter posters should visually guide viewers through the basics of what the local NSSLHA chapter has done throughout the year, provide ideas for other chapters, and encourage creativity.

The chapter poster session format is informal and will not include any oral communication between viewers and poster creators. Chapter posters will be set up around a room, and attendees will be able to tour the room at their own pace to view all of the submitted posters.

Attendees will then vote on their favorite poster (based on creativity, amount of information, and ideas).

Poster Session Location and Schedule

The NSSLHA chapter poster session will take place Friday, November 15, 2013, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. during The NSSLHA Experience in the McCormick Place, Lakeside Center, Level 3. There is no formal presentation, so a chapter representative is not required to be present with the poster.

Set Up and Removal Times

Chapter posters must be hung between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Friday, November 15. Chapter posters will remain up until 4:00 p.m. However, participant voting will end promptly at 2:00 p.m.

NSSLHA is not responsible for posters left on boards after 4:00 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2013.

Poster Board Specifications

The poster board surface is approximately 4' high x 8' wide. Boards are made of soft fabric with aluminum frames. Presentation materials may be attached using pushpins or Velcro. Each board will have pushpins and Velcro available for presenters to secure their posters. There will be no Internet access, AV equipment, or electrical outlets available in The NSSLHA Experience chapter poster space.

Suggested Materials and Tips for Poster Sessions

It is recommended that poster presenters use thin, lightweight poster paper. Heavier paper or cardboard may be difficult to keep in position on the board. Additional poster presentation tips are available.

Poster Printing Service & Shipping Information

Poster presenters may opt to take advantage of the poster printing service provided by PSAV, ASHA's official AV partner, to assist in the preparation of their posters for display at the ASHA Convention. Use the poster printing service to have your poster shipped directly to the convention center so it will be ready and awaiting pick-up when you arrive in Chicago.

If you do not wish to use the poster printing service, you are responsible for personally transporting your poster to the convention center or mailing your poster to yourself at the hotel where you will be staying in Chicago. Do not ship your materials directly to the convention center as ASHA cannot receive, store, or hold items for presenters or attendees, and shipments to individuals are likely to be lost or discarded.

CEUs

Poster participants will not earn CEUs for preparation of chapter posters.

Voting and Prizes

All students attending The NSSLHA Experience will be able to vote for their favorite chapter poster. The chapter with the most votes will receive a prize to take back to their local NSSLHA chapter. In the case of a tie, the NSSLHA Executive Council will cast the deciding vote. Read more about the poster voting process on the Charge Up Your Chapter page.
