Neurophysiological Intraoperative Monitoring Group Receives Stage 2 Approval
The Council for Clinical Specialty Recognition (CCSR) is pleased to announce the February 28, 2011, approval of the Stage 2 application for recognition to the Audiology Neurophysiological Intraoperative Monitoring (NIOM) group. Stage 2 of the recognition process requires the petitioning group to detail their plans for verifying that individuals meet the specified requirements for advanced knowledge, skills, and experience to become recognized specialists in the proposed specialty area. Additionally, the group must provide evidence of their expected organizational and financial viability.
The NIOM will be appointing the inaugural members of the board who will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the area-specific program of specialization. They must complete the legal process of becoming incorporated and must submit their completed Specialty Board on Neurophysiological Intraoperative Monitoring Manual for review and approval by the CCSR.
The NIOM Board has until August 1, 2012, to complete the steps listed above. Upon completion of all requirements, the NIOM Board will be authorized to receive and process applications for specialty recognition.
